HELEN BIGGS
Counselling for Adults & Young People
About
Hi, I am Helen Biggs, a counsellor for adults and young people.
I am an integrative counsellor which means I am able to draw on several approaches within my practice. The core of my work is person centred which means I am guided by you in the direction of therapy and very much believe you have the capacity to make the changes that you are seeking. You are the expert on yourself! Every therapy session, with each person is very different and I tailor the way I work to suit whomever is sitting with me, making it an unique and individual experience for you.
Experience
I am an experienced therapist, having worked in various settings including the NHS, secondary schools and for mental health organisations including Mind, Off the Record, Network and the Southmead Project.
I have extensive experience of working with people who have experienced trauma through abuse (physical, sexual, emotional, domestic), neglect and sexual violence.
When working with individuals that have experienced any kind of abuse or violence I ensure that the therapy I offer is safe and supportive, being mindful of the pacing of the work and that appropriate tools and resources are built before embarking on the more trauma focused work. This would be fully explained in an initial session.
I have over 10 years experience working with young people and have undertaken additional training to offer counselling for young people.
I have worked with young people on a one to one basis and in groups through local organisations such as Off the Record and also within secondary schools.
My counselling experience has seen me working with a whole range of people with a whole range of issues including anxiety, work stress, depression, relationship issues just to name a few, I have also listed a range of presenting issues I can work with you on. If what you are experiencing isn’t listed please just get in touch and ask, if I can’t help you I will do my best to refer you onto someone that can.
